Time to share my favorite Donuts recipe with you on my baking blog. Donuts have always fascinated me. I got to know them alongside bagels as pastries from America. Basically, they taste like jelly donuts, but there is a hole where the filling would otherwise be. So basically a donut is a diet jelly donut, but of course you can’t really lose weight from it. Donuts are deep-fried cake rings baked in oil. Most often you see them sugared or glazed like in my donuts recipe.
Instructions for homemade donuts recipe
First, mix the ingredients in the food processor and let the dough rise for an hour in a warm place, covered. Then knead the dough well with your hands and roll it out on a floured countertop to a thickness of about 1.5 cm.
Now cut out the dough with round cookie cutters rings – one large diameter each (e.g. 9.0cm Ø) and a small one for the center (e.g. 2.6cm Ø). Let the cut out donut blanks rest on a board or baking tray with baking paper. Roll out the remaining dough again and again until there is no dough left. Form the last hole with a wooden spoon handle.
Now heat a large frying pan with about one liter of oil. When small bubbles appear on a wooden stick, turn down the heat to medium (i.e. from about 170° degrees to about 150° degrees).
Now allow the dough rings to float in the pan and brown there for about 2 minutes per side, depending on the desired browning. It may be that the cooler batter cools the fat a bit and then a little more time is needed in the pan.
Transfer the finished cake rings from the pan directly to a sugared plate and then cool on a wire rack. If you prefer a different decoration, like frosting or powdered sugar, then place the donut directly on the wire rack without sugar. I always put some kitchen paper underneath to remove some of the fat.
Delicious donuts like Dunkin’ Donuts or Krispy Kreme easy homemade.
Donuts are not one of those classic cake recipes that you immediately think of. When you think of American cakes, that often rather my muffin recipes or even brownies come to mind. However, fudge and cookies are just as much a part of it as the delicious donuts recipes.
Make and bake your own donuts
I had my first donut traditionally at Dunkin’ Donuts in the USA. Whether at breakfast or brunch with a bagel sandwich or simply with coffee in the afternoon. I could never say no to a sugared or glazed little cake donut.
At the latest when I stood in Las Vegas in front of the windows of the visible donut production line of Krispy Kreme, I wanted to bake them myself. It looked fascinating how the delicious yeast particles fresh from the oil were automatically transported to the counter for sale. The search for the best donuts recipe began and I found it.
What’s the difference between bagels and donuts?
Both should be familiar to you from the US and in short, bagels are more savory and donuts are completely sweet. While bagels are baked in water and in the oven, donuts only go into a pan with oil to bake. Both varieties are yeast doughs and popular breakfast classics. Bagels can be compared to our German bread rolls, donuts more to our Berliners or jelly doughnuts.
Donuts and jelly donuts – one dough and many possibilities
The sweet round cake rings are baked just like jelly donuts in a pan with hot vegetable oil. Surely it does not surprise you now that the donuts recipe dough is identical both versions. Therefore, I often make both versions at the same time. I then use the dough directly for some donuts and then use the rest to make jelly doughnuts, which I fill with homemade jam.

Homemade donuts recipe taste best freshly baked with a cup of coffee. Through the hole in the middle you have even more crust and therefore more sugar and glaze.
