Best scones recipe, because scones are the small English bread rolls or also British rolls, which belong to the tea time. Not only for the 5 o’clock tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace, the delicious mini buns are served with jam and clotted cream. Known are the small cake-like scones from the tea ceremony etagere next to sandwiches and macarons.

Instructions for the scones recipe pastry

Preheat oven to 160°C convection oven. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Now add cold margarine and cold Greek yogurt and mix briefly with a dough hook in a food processor. The dough should still be a little crumbly.

Then knead on a floured work surface with your hands until the dough becomes one unit. Be careful not to let the dough get warm. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1-2cm and cut out a 7cm diameter ring.

Cut out 12 scones and place them on a baking tray with baking paper. Now whisk a mixture of the egg and some milk in a small bowl and brush it on.

Then place in the oven at 160°C convection oven for 15 minutes. Let cool and serve with jam, clotted cream or cream with coffee or tea.

Tea Time & High Tea Ceremony with Pastry

When I think of typical English Tea Time, the first thing I think of is the pastry, the scones. Made of non-sweet shortbread, these little bread rolls are part of every tea ceremony, just like in London. Originally, the scones recipe came from Scotland and they were fried in a pan at that time. Meanwhile, thanks to baking powder, the mini buns rise wonderfully and can be baked in the oven.

The English and British bread rolls belong to every High Tea Ceremony between sandwiches and macarons on an etagere. They like to be served with jam, honey and clotted cream. I prefer to eat my scones with homemade strawberry jam and a little whipped cream instead of the thick clotted cream.

I’ve had the little English bread rolls more often than not, and they were extremely crumbly and dry in texture. In general, you shouldn’t mix or work the dough too long. The dough is best left to chill. Sometimes little things decide the texture and how extremely the pastry then rises.

Scones like at the Queen at Tea Time

In my scones recipe, the mini buns typically get crispy on the outside, but stay soft and moist on the inside. You could also spread them well with just a little butter and eat them plain. However, to the small pastry you would like to keep the British style to the English tea.

Scones recipe for tea and coffee

This scones recipe is made with simple ingredients and is super quick to bake. They taste super delicious freshly baked and still slightly warm. Of course, you don’t have to serve tea but can also enjoy coffee or hot chocolate with them.
