Plum cake recipe for a simple and delicious plum cake, which is made quickly and succeeds even beginners. A shortcrust pastry as a base for various fruit cakes and for us the perfect base for our delicious plum cake or plum cake.

Step-by-step instructions to make the perfect plum cake

Cream sugar, salt and butter in a cake mixer until fluffy. Add egg and flour by tablespoonfuls while mixer continues to run. Place dough in the refrigerator for an hour.

Now wash, halve and pit the plums. If desired, you can also quarter the plums, which will make it easier to eat with a fork later.

After an hour, roll out the dough with flour and cover a fruit-base mold with it, creating a rim. This edge is important, because especially with plums a lot of juice is produced during baking and we do not want to have this juice permanently burned in the oven.

Now place the plums in a circle, standing slightly upright from the outside to the inside, and press them very lightly into the bottom.

Bake the cake for about 45 minutes at 180 degrees (top/bottom heat) and let it cool before removing the pan.

To serve, you can sprinkle the cake with a little vanilla sugar or cinnamon sugar or serve with whipped cream or, of course, just enjoy it plain.

However, strictly speaking, our plum cake is more of a plum cake. Plums are the perfect subspecies of plums that are best for baking. While round plums tend to be chewy and perfect for jams, damsons have the perfect consistency as a cake fruit. You are also welcome to still spread the butter crumble from our crumble cake on the plums before baking. However, half of the amount of ingredients given for the apple crumble cake is sufficient.

  • Zuerst Zucker, Salz und Butter schaumig rühren in der Küchenmaschine.
    80 g (⅖ cups) sugar
    0,5 tsp (½ tsp) salt
    175 g (6.00 oz) spreadable butter
  • Add egg and add flour by the spoonful and let it mix. Then chill the dough for about an hour. Start 60 minutes timer here

  • In the meantime, wash the plums, cut them in half and remove the pit. If desired, you can also quarter the plums.

  • After the hour, roll out dough with flour and line a fruit tart pan with it.
  • Now place the half plums in a circle from the outside to the inside on the dough and press them in lightly.
