Who follows my lifestyle blog for years, certainly knows my great preference for Thailand, Thai cuisine and Asian specialties. Another preference, good restaurants, good hotels and for the city of Berlin there is of course also. If you can combine both preferences, then in Berlin, it is of course a pleasant “must visit” and so I spent the evening in the Sra Bua by Tim Raue Restaurant in the Hotel Adlon Berlin, on Pariser Platz.
Sra Bua by Tim Raue at the Hotel Adlon – directly at the Brandenburg Gate
The location of the Sra Bua by Tim Raue restaurant is of course perfect. The Hotel Adlon, at the latest since its reopening in 1997, the center of attraction at Pariser Platz. In the setting sun still a view of the Brandenburg Gate, some tourists, some school classes – Berlin is and remains – THE tourist city in Germany. What many tourists do not know, a special curry sausage and especially good authentic Thai and Japanese food can be found only 50 meters from the Brandenburg Gate – in Sra Bua by Tim Raue, or rather in the Kempinski Hotel Adlon Berlin.
As soon as you enter the historic house, you notice the history, a spacious lobby that directly invites you to linger and a friendly reception on the left. In addition, a good description of the way and the desire for a nice dinner and a nice evening. The expectations of sterile and stiff, which is usually said to the Adlon Hotel, I can not confirm at all so far, but I also had not yet arrived at the restaurant.
Sra Bua by Tim Raue at the Adlon Hotel – going down a flight of stairs.
Located at the end of the long hallway, the light interior changes to darker, dignified colors, golden hues mixed with fluffy upholstery. It was quite different from what I imagined Sra Bua to be and most importantly – much cozier, warm and homey. Here can certainly be good, dinner.
The friendliness from the reception, was also continued in the restaurant, a view into the kitchen of the Sra Bua by Tim Raue allows the large glass pane. Sit down and let the restaurant take effect on you. A play of glass and dark tones, bright accents and good but subtle lighting.
Sra Bua at Hotel Adlon – an aperitif – a menu
An aperitif to start the evening nicely, no alcohol, rather something fresh and refreshing, because at least that evening, the weather in Berlin was still gorgeous and warm. The recommendation “The King” – (basil, lemon juice, elderflower syrup and ginger lemonade) sounds tempting and it also tasted perfect. I could get used to that.
The menu at Sra Bua by tim Raue is heavy and very inviting. The menu is the perfect splash of color on the table – the selection diverse. Was I after a summer menu or yet rather some fresh sushi, would I like a piece of filet or a “Bangkok duck”, an Asian soup or a small salad. I don’t think there were many things on the menu that didn’t appeal to me.
How gladly I would have looked here once again behind the scenes, looked how the sushi is rolled or the curry is prepared, my desire to watch here once again was awakened by the dishes. I wonder if you can ask questions in the Adlon Hotel, as I did last time in the patisserie in the Lösch Hotel or homemade my foccacia in Hamburg. But in the Adlon Hotel and in the Sra Bua by Tim Raue, the kitchen is probably “sacred” and I did not want to ask… 🙂
Sra Bua at the Adlon Hotel – dinner or “Ruam Gan”.
For those of you who have been to Thailand before, you have surely come across the terms “Ruam” and “Gan” and it means something like “sharing something with someone…”. I would have expected it less, in a Restaurant by Tim Raue at the Hotel Adlon in Berlin…. Sharing the dishes with my neighbors, whether private individuals or business people.
In total, the “Ruam Gan” at Sra Bua consists of three courses, there are six starters, four main courses and a selection of desserts and it can be combined as desired. Looking around the restaurant, it is noticeable how many tables have ordered “Ruam Gan” and the price of EUR 68.00 per person is extremely fair to this.
Sra Bua at the Hotel Adlon – My impression
I would like to tell you so far only so much, it was an absolutely successful evening in the Sra Bua by Tim Raue in the Adlon Hotel Berlin and I will present you the food and the various Thai delicacies in the next few days still on my new food blog in detail.
The positive impression, from entering the hotel Adlon, to the farewell in the early morning at the bar of the Sra Bua was confirmed throughout. The thought that many of you surely had at the beginning, the venerable hotel “Adlon” in Berlin directly at the Brandenburg Gate and then a “casual” restaurant to it, with a well-known star chef as a godfather – it works.
In addition to the great quality of the food, the good composition of the menu, about which I will report to you separately, it is above all again the staff at the Kempinski Hotel Adlon in Berlin, who let us keep a great impression of the evening in our memories. Many thanks for this … (P.S.: When I see the pictures of the dinner, I want to go back to Berlin again 🙂 … )
P.S.: Directly make my own sushi or Thai curry, prepare a duck Thai style for the winter (or Christmas?), did not work out this time, but for that there will soon be cooking classes at Sra Bua by Tim Raue at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin, about which I want to tell you separately … (but it sounded very interesting!)
Update: My next visit to Sra Bua in Berlin also only reinforced my impressions. I had another Sra Bua starred dining experience in Frankfurt.
